I am sorry to say that it has been exactly 10 years since I last ran the Volkslaufe and my oldest daughter ran the 2K Fun Run at 7 years old! Now, my daughter and I are road tripping it out to Frankenmuth to run the 5K together! FEATURED LODGING Drury Inn And Suites Frankenmuth This hotel offers 78 standard guestrooms and two-room suites. The suites provide a relaxing atmosphere which include separate bedroom and living areas. The Volksläufe is the People's Race. It provides runners of all levels the choice of a 20K, 10K, or 5K run along with a 5K walk and a 2K Gemutlichkeit Run (for those 12 and under - a FUN RUN). All events are held on a certified course with 95% hard surface and some hills. All races will begin and end in to the beautiful setting of Frankenmuth’s Heritage Park. A cannon shot will set the first race along their designated route. Each course takes runners through Historic Frankenmuth (all traffic controlled), by neighboring farms, and finally, along the winding Cass River, past a "grist mill" and across the world's largest covered bridge built in the 20th century. Bands, dance groups, and spirited race fans provided added entertainment along the routes of all races. As Runners will conclude their journey they will finish to the “Omm papa” sounds of the sounds of the Frankentrost Band as they are welcomed by 6,000 spectators in the picnic like setting of Heritage Park. Half the Fun of the Run is the Party before the Race. On July 3rd, experience the Volksläufe Eve Activities. Visit Heritage Park early to get a jump on registration, secure your Runner's Packet, and have time to take advantage of additional race festivities. Enjoy Free Race Eve Activities from 5pm-11pm on July 3rd including Free Inflatable toys for kids, a Beer Garten, Live Music, Tasty Spaghetti Dinner, and a Spectacular Fireworks Display. Don’t forget to leave time to check out the Runner’s Marketplace when you pick-up your Runner’s Packet inside the Harvey Kern Pavilion. Vendors will be on display with a variety of goods and services. |
