D-RIBOSE POWDER 150gm

This blog entry is part of my "Vitamin Supplementation for Aging" that I write about once in a while. I recently have started feeling the effects of the forties and spend more time than I like to admit researching supplements that help me feel younger than I really am :)

A review published online a couple of days ago in the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) Journal concluded that there is sufficient evidence for a role of vitamin D in brain development and function, and that supplementation of the vitamin is needed for many of us. In the process of finding this article, I found this wonderful website: http://www.fasebj.org/ and learned more about the quality of Life Extension vitamins.

The review is the fourth in a series by the duo to evaluate the evidence linking micronutrient deficiency to brain function.

Dr Bruce N. Ames, who is a senior scientist at Children’s Hospital Oakland Research Institute, and assistant staff scientist Joyce C. McCann, PhD observe that the wide distribution of vitamin D receptors in the brain provide evidence for the vitamin's involvement in the function of that organ. I find it amazing that there are actually receptors in my brain craving Vitamin D.

They note that the vitamin has the ability to affect brain proteins involved with motor control, learning and memory, and possibly social and maternal behavior.

Additionally, findings from clinical and laboratory studies suggest that vitamin D inadequacy might have cognitive and behavioral consequences. Because vitamin D is found in few foods, and since many individuals are unable to adequately form vitamin D in their skin due to darker pigmentation, Drs McCann and Ames conclude that supplementation is warranted for populations whose whose vitamin D status is low.

“This critical analysis of vitamin D function and the brain is a model of careful thinking about nutrition and behavior”, FASEB Journal Editor in Chief Gerald Weissmann stated.

Recommendations for vitamin D supplementation of at-risk groups, include nursing infants, the elderly, and African-Americans.

Life Extension offers a broad range of supplements, minerals and vitamins all ranked very high in quality and potency. They have soy supplements and
