The Michigan Presidential Primary - Jan. 15th, 2008- CLICK HERE!

On November 21, 2007 a divided Michigan Supreme Court reinstated Michigan's two-party Jan. 15 presidential primary, reversing two lower-court decisions and placing the state back in the center of at least the Republican nomination contest.

A month later, the Michigan primary is sizing up to be big draw with 57% of Michigan voters saying that they'll cast ballots.

Many of us have put the primary on the back burner as we hurried to get ready for the holidays. Now that Christmas is behind us - we need to start focusing as a community on the issues and voices of the candidates no matter which party we favor.

The tumult over primary-related lawsuits and legislation in November is unlikely to affect on turnout at the Michigan polls. But lots of Michigan democratic voters will be turned off if they realize they can't vote for their favorite candidate. Supporters of democrats: Joe Biden, John Edwards, Barack Obama and Bill Richardson are urged to vote “uncommitted” on the Michigan Ballot instead of writing in their candidates’ names because write-in votes for those candidates will not be counted.

Did you know that Michigan voters will be the third in the nation to step to the polls for the presidential primary election in 2008? An honor - but will all of our votes count?

The nine Republican nominees are Samuel Dale Brownback, Rudolph Giuliani, Mike Huckabee, Duncan Hunter, John McCain, Ron Paul, Mitt Romney, Tom Tancredo and Fred Thompson. All nine remain on Michigan's Jan. 15 primary ballot.

The Michigan law changing the date, listed as a one-time deal, will move the Michigan presidential primary to the fourth Tuesday in February for future primary elections in presidential years.

------------------------

Do you agree with the date change? Let us know!

Ater Christmas Sales - The Steals and the Deals- CLICK HERE!

Post Christmas Bargain Hunters have the advantage this year.

Stores such as Macy's, The Gap and Brooks Brothers will again open early in extended holiday hours today (it is actually after midnight in Michigan where I am writing this), after closing for Christmas, to capture the belly-filled crowds who get back in shopping mode to use their gift cards, purchase holiday décor marked at 50% off and shop at retailers kicking off their annual or semi-annual sales.

Post-Christmas sales online and offline have become even more important to retailers amid the rising popularity of gift cards, I imagine. Any help to ring in additional sales in a season that's expected to grow at their slowest pace in five years would be welcome relief.

With that said, I can only guess that the discounts and deals are going to be unsurpassed during the post holiday buying spree.

Here are some online jewelry discounts that you can get some deals on. At the same time, you can cash in that gift card:

Total holiday shopping this year is expected to rise 4% to $474.5 billion, while gift-card sales are expected to rise 6% to $26.3 billion, according to estimates from trade group National Retail Federation.

Dec. 26 also marks the time when retailers will begin discounting unsold merchandise to clear room for spring and other new goods coming in. Discounts may be even deeper this year after early-bird specials that boosted traffic and sales early in the season trailed off before picking up this past weekend.
Happy shopping!

Free Weight Loss Calculator & Charting System- CLICK HERE!

It's time for me to start thinking about that diet that I will begin after the holidays. "Time" itself is taking it's toll on me and watching my weight is now an eternal matter versus the "once in a while thing" that it used to be.

A constant battle, to be exact. It is pretty simple concept to me - eat less and exercise more. The problem is that my time is not my own and finding the time to exercise more is not as easy as it used to be.

I did two things to prepare for the upcoming diet. The first is a really cool calorie calculator. I actually resurrected the calculator from an old project I worked on a couple of years ago. This calculator is not like others. You can actually play with the amount of calories you want to intake on a regular basis to determine how fast you will lose weight. You can also change the amount of activity you are going to do.

After you get the parameters straight, you can print out the chart and tack it up somewhere to monitor your weight loss. I love this calculator because it is the epitomy of HOPE. You can see how fast or slow your goal will be met.

The second thing I did was study a BUNCH of Diets:

My choice was the Zone Diet Products. I will tell you why in the next Blog Post!

Cold is Cool - 4th Graders Ski Free!- CLICK HERE!

The Michigan Snowsports Industries Association (MSIA) wants to give Michigan kids an opportunity to get out, have fun and get healthy this winter. This is why MSIA has established a state-wide program which provides every fourth grader in Michigan the opportunity to ski for free. Endorsed by Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm and sponsored by Dasani Water, a product of the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Michigan, fourth graders can obtain a “Cold is Cool” Ski & Ride Passport that gives them up to three free lift tickets or trail passes at 19 participating ski areas.

The “Cold is Cool” Fourth Grade Ski & Ride Passport is one of the elements of MSIA’s “Cold is Cool” program, which is dedicated to improving the health of the children in our state by offering winter outdoor activities for all Michigan kids and their families.Steve Kershner, MSIA chairman and director of skiing at Shanty Creek, says the association wants Michigan kids to have the opportunity to ski or snowboard.

“Fourth grade is the perfect age to learn to ski. Nine- and ten-year-old kids have the coordination to pick up the sport quickly,” he adds.In order for fourth graders to use the free lift or trail pass coupons, a paying adult must accompany them. “We feel that fourth graders should be supervised by an adult while on the slopes and trails. Our intention is to make this a fun, affordable activity for the entire family,” says Mickey MacWilliams, MSIA executive director. With the Passport, up to two fourth graders can ski free with each paying adult. In October, Michigan elementary and middle school principals receive a “Cold is Cool” packet with information on a variety of MSIA programs including application forms for the Fourth Grade Passport.

Kids can also pick up the applications at participating MSIA ski shops and online at www.goskimichigan.com. Although the skiing is free, MSIA charges a $15 printing and shipping fee for each passport ordered.

Participating ski areas include:

The Cold is Cool Fourth Grade Ski & Ride Passport has blackout dates at some of the participating ski areas. Dates are listed on the application and the passport itself. How to Obtain a 4th Grade Ski & Ride Cold is Cool PassportPassport applications are sent to all Michigan elementary schools in November, so be sure to ask your teacher for your application.

They are also available at MSIA Ski Shops in November, or you can also click here to obtain one.Once you receive your application, have your parents fill out all of the required information and return to the Michigan Snowsports Industries Association. Please be sure to include: A $15 processing fee - please call (248) 620-4448. Please make check payable to MSIA. Completed application (click here for application).

Tripology - Success in Matching Travel Agents with Travelers- CLICK HERE!

It's about this time of the year (late December) that I start to think about what we should do for our annual family vacation. I have four kids that have already outgrown Disney World.

We visit Florida every year to spend time with my in-laws and we also travel to Florida every year for the AAU State Volleyball Championships in June, but we like to plan a unique and memorable vacation each year that is out of the ordinary.

I recently learned about a new online service call Tripology that matches you with a few Travel Agents that have experience in where you are going or what you are looking for. I have a feeling that this will save a tremendous amount of time.

A couple of years ago, our family spent a couple of weeks in Montana and Yellowstone. We stayed on a horse ranch for a week, went Whitewater rafting and had the time of our lives. The planning took a LONG time. I am looking for a similar type of vacation this year without the excessive planning and I think that the Tripology Travel Agent Service can help.

In a nutshell, Tripology is a new website aimed at connecting you with travel agents that specialize in the type of trip you wish to take. So if you are thinking of Australia (which by the way is where we went for our honeymoon) - you are matched with a travel agent that really knows Australia.

This year, we want to travel to a Western state and spend time in the Wilderness. Possibly Mountain bike in the Rockies. Something like that.

Any ideas? I'll let you know what my Tripology Agent(s) give me as far as ideas!

kidsWellness Herbal Formulas- CLICK HERE!

Stay tuned for a series of herbal cures from me in the next couple of months. I am convinced that many diseases and ailments are caused by nutritional deficiencies.

Starting with Holistic Pediatrics - I found a wonderful website called Kids Wellness.

kidsWellness Herbal Formulas are unique preparations developed through over 20 years of working with children‘s special needs at the Rydland Pediatric Wellness Center. Medical Doctor, Eric N. Rydland, M.D. has formulated these herbal combinations specifically to meet the needs of children and after years of listening to the parents of children he has treated. The herbs are combined in the proper ratio to have the greatest effect on the condition for which it is recommended. From Colic to Respiratory Cough - there is a herbal cure.

All herbs are completely natural, either organic or wild crafted.

Each herb is carefully extracted from the best part of the plant with food grade alcohol in order to have the highest possible potency and to stay in solution. After combining the herbs in the proper ratios, the alcohol is slowly evaporated under carefully controlled conditions to retain their full potency.

The herbs are then combined with vegetable glycerine to flavor them for a child‘s taste. It is a time consuming and expensive process, but we feel this is important to assure you a quality product available for your child‘s health.

For your convenience, these herbal extracts are not only combined together in one bottle, but appropriate doses are clearly listed on the label of each product for every child‘s weight. This takes the guesswork out of doses changing as the child grows and avoids the confusion of a different number of drops for each herb.

Apothecare Mineral Quick 16 ounce

The bodies of most, if not all, of the children living in the United States and other developed nations have very low levels of minerals such as magnesium, zinc, chromium and iodine in their bodies.

These important components of tissues are also required for thousands of chemical processes that our children‘s bodies perform daily. Try Apothecare.

Any comments? Please let me know your thoughts!

Wheat Germ Oil for Equine Skin and Coat Care- CLICK HERE!

We are about to embark on 2008 - approx. 50 years after the first studies of the benefits of wheat germ oil were released. The verdict? The medical community is still arguing about the benefits of wheat germ oil.

Everyone agrees on a few facts, though. Wheat Germ Oil taken in appropriate doses based on weights does not harm animals or humans. AND Wheat Germ Oil can enhance Muscle Gain & Recovery in people and horses.

With that said, I have personally hear numerous "miracle testimonials" about what the combination of wheat germ oil and soybean oil can do for both young horses and mature horses.

Soybean and Wheat Germ Oils add to the fullness of the coat and provide a show quality shine - this we know (almost as fact). Vitamins A, D, and E, whether given internally or applied externally work together to keep the coat healthy and aid in the healing process of most wounds and poor skin conditions. When Wheat Germ Oil Blend by Farnam is applied on the skin of a horse, it improves the circulation of blood and also helps to repair the skin cells destroyed by the scorching heat of sun.

Wheat Germ Oil Blend falls under the class of a commodity item. It is a very reasonably priced supplement when fed regularly. But, wheatgerm oil is a very sensitive oil, therefore must be used cautiously. It tends to degrade in quality, when exposed to high temperatures.

The oil extracted from wheat germ, the botanical name of which is Triticum vulgare, has a shelf life of near about 6-8 months.

Buy > $75 worth of supplements at http://www.shanestack.com/ and use coupon code: michbiz to save $5.00 off your order.

Research indicates that Wheat Germ Oil may be useful in the treatment of:
Skin conditions, such as eczema or psoriasis
Burns
Skin ulcers
Dry skin
Herpes
Cardiovascular disease
Poor circulation
Intermittent claudication

Here are a couple of my Michigan Outdoor Sport favorites for the 2007-2008 season:

Alopecia Areata - Living with Hair Loss & Hair Loss Treatments- CLICK HERE!

Alopecia areata (al-oh-PEE-shah air-ee-AH-tah) is an unpredictable, autoimmune skin disease resulting in the loss of hair on the head and elsewhere on the bodies of people afflicted with this disease.

'Tis the season to say a prayer for the sufferers of Alopecia areata. My cousins 7 year old son was just diagnosed and I have done extensive research on the disease.

Nisim International (a Canadian Company) has created a product that has been clinically proven to control excessive hair loss and regrow hair in Alopecia areata patients. Nisim's products are shipped around the world and also has distributors in more than 30 countries.

Alopecia areata is a common disease that affects approximately 1.8% of the population in Michigan and includes more than 5 million people in the United States. Think about that for a minute- about 1 in 50 people in Michigan suffer from this disease.

Many people suffering from Alopecia Areata (especially women) wear wigs. Beauty Trends offers a selection of wigs that is unsurpassed in quality and realistic look. Wig Coupons - click here

Alopecia Areata usually starts with a small, round, smooth patch of hair loss. It occurs in males and females of all ages and races, but onset most commonly occurs in childhood. It usually does not occur prior to 18 months of age.

It is estimated that approximately two percent of the population will be affected at some point in their lives. Alopecia Areata may cycle through expression and remission. When hair does start to regrow after a bout with the disease, it tends to be very fine "peach fuzzy type" hair. Eventually it regains most or all of its normal color and texture.

Heredity plays a role in developing Alopecia Areata. In one out of five persons with alopecia areata, someone else in the family also has the disease.

Those who develop alopecia areata for the first time after the age of thirty years have less likelihood that another family member will have it. Those who develop their first patch of alopecia areata before the age of thirty have a higher possibility that other family members will also have it.

The Golden Compass (pass on this one) - Movie Tickets at Fandango- CLICK HERE!

I want to be upfront about this BLOG post - it has nothing to do with shopping or Michigan, but it I feel it does have something to do with each and every one of us that have children. It does involve a religious topic and I wanted to be upfront about that as well. I sincerely apologize if I offend anyone. I rarely create blog posts like this , but I felt this was important enough to take a stand. It is based both on an attack of the Catholic Church and God through the media.

Tomorrow, the movie "The Golden Compass" is scheduled to open in theaters. I don't know much about the specifics of the movie, but what I wanted to comment on is the author of the book that the movie is based on and the deception the author is using through this movie.
The author is Philip Pullman. Mr. Pullman is a very open and active Atheist.

Some of his quotes include, "My books are about killing God" and "I'm trying to undermine the basis of Christian belief". He also is the author of a trilogy named The Dark Materials that begins with The Golden Compass. I won't get into great detail, but his books include many disturbing themes including: condoning the killing of children, glorifying deception, and the killing of God.

Childrens Bibles and Christian Resources

He portrays nuns and priests in offensive ways, names his evil empire "The Magisterium", and includes attacks on the pope and Mary. Here are a few excerpts from his books,
"I used to be a nun you see. I thought physics could be done to the glory of God, till I saw there wasn't any God at all and that physics was more interesting anyway. The Christian religion is a very powerful and convincing mistake, that's all."

And after killing God in the third book the lead character states of her father, "He meant the Kingdom was over, the Kingdom of Heaven, it was all finished. We shouldn't live as if it mattered more than this life in this world, because where we are is always the most important place."
The books are filled with blatant attacks on Christianity, the Catholic Church, and the belief in God in general.

Abbey Press Gifts of inspiration and faith

Although the movie has removed some of the more direct attacks on God and the Catholic Church the author's intent is to get children to read his books, which are much more direct in their attacks. One writer says it best, "They (children) don't even know it yet, but once Pullman hooks them with the sanitized version represented by the screen adaptation of The Golden Compass — a move that will likely lull many parents into complacency about the books — then he will have the freedom to use his fantasy series to pour into their hearts Nietzsche's (anti-God) terrible lessons."

When a friend made it known to me the background behind this movie and after doing my own research, I felt compelled to share this information with as many as I could. My intent in sending this e-mail is to offer information so that all of you can make informed decisions. Again, if I have offended anyone by posting this opinion, I apologize.

Shopping - Too much of a good thing?- CLICK HERE!

I checked the last 10 posts on this blog and 8 of them had something to do with shopping. COMMENTS PLEASE. Is this too much of a good thing?

I am a bonafide "Eastsider" that grew up and because of various reasons made my home on the "Westside". For my casual visitors and not my regular readers - I am talking about Michigan and in particular the Detroit area.

The Detroit area is divided (some say that I-75 is the dividing line and some say that it is Woodward). In any case - I grew up WAY East and now I live WAY West.

I happened to be over on the East side today and visited an old "stomping ground" of mine -- Oakland Mall. I may get much argument - but there is not a mall in Michigan that is as wonderful as Oakland Mall. Macys (which used to be my beloved Hudsons) was beautifully decorated and I got the best deals around!

Oakland Mall at a Glance
Built: 1968 Location: Troy, 14 Mile and John R. Roads

A wide, straight corridor forms the main part of the mall Macy's Lakeside Grill has a terrace that overlooks the mall's interior Oakland Mall opened in 1968, three years after one of its anchor stores, Sears.

It was originally an enclosed corridor of stores connecting two anchors and a supermarket.

The mall was expanded in 1980 through the addition of a two-level wing anchored by JC Penney. Today the mall has five anchors, including Borders, JC Penney, Macy's, Sears and Steve & Barry's. Dining options include a food court, Lakeshore Grill and Olga's Kitchen.

As much as I love the convenience and deals of online shopping - you just can't beat offline shopping trips near the holidays.

Another favorite mall of mine is Somerset Mall - although a bit pricey. I love Brookstones, Foot Locker and Fossil to name a few. (For Fossil Watch coupons, click here)

Somerset:
Built: South mall 1969, north mall 1996 Location: Troy, on either side of Big Beaver Road
Luxury retail

78 stores exclusive to Michigan

Glass skyway, atriums and skylights Somerset Collection is Michigan's retail trendsetter, bringing several firsts to the area. Its two malls are connected over Big Beaver Road via a glass skyway. It is truly palatial in terms of size and atmosphere with glass atriums/skylights, marble floors and renown sculptures.

The four anchors in the collection are Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom and Macy's. Dining options include a collection of 10 eateries known as Peacock Cafes, California Pizza Kitchen, The Capital Grille and a French seafood restaurant, McCormick & Schmick's.

Happy Offline shopping too!

Skiing - Rossignol Ski Specials at Paragon Sports- CLICK HERE!

Ski Magazine named Michigan the Midwest's top ski destination, and though the 40-plus resorts in the Wolverine State can't match the towering, vertical drops enjoyed by skiers in Vermont or Colorado, they can offer plenty of the essential stuff -- snow. The average annual snowfall in northern Michigan is 120 to 140 inches, and the resorts supplement that with a barrage of snowguns.

Germ Terminator Coupons / Toothbrush Sanitizer Coupons- CLICK HERE!

Is the Germ Terminator Worth Your Money

Everytime you put your toothbrush in your mouth you may be letting some nasty germs into your system. Viruses, fungus and molds may be breeding on your toothbrush. One toothbrush sanitizer promises to wipe out that bacteria - The Germ Terminator invented by James Song - known for the book "Why Your Toothbrush May Be Killing You… Slowly"

The Germ Terminator is proven to get rid of germs:

1. E. Coli
2. Staphylococcus aureus
3. Salmonella choleraesuis
4. Listeria monocytogenes
5. Porphyromonas gingivalis
6. Neisseria meningitidis
7. Candida albicans
8. Herpes Simplex Virus - Type 1
9. Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) - Type 1
10. Influenza A Virus (Common Flu Virus)
11. Rhinovirus (Common Cold Virus)
12. Hepatitis C Virus

I'm a germ freak and being a Mom I try to sterilize everything.

And the American Dental Association believes that I have a good idea in that! It claims bacteria thrive on toothbrushes because they often sit in your home's most germ-filled room -- your bathroom.

For that reason and others the FDA has approved the Germ Terminator Toothbrush Sterilizer as a medical device.

The germs on your toothbrush are normally your germs and you've built an immunity to them. However, if you suddenly went on something that suppressed your auto-immune system, then of course those organisms could start causing problems for you.

Recent studies have found that a single toothbrush can carry as many as 100 million germs and from the looks of it, our toothbrushes weren't too far off.

There is no doubt that the Germ Terminator lives up to its claims, but is the Germ Terminator necessary?

Farmington Hills dentist, Dr. Stephen White says it certainly helps but it may be slightly overkill. He says people simply need to be aware of where they keep their toothbrushes.
"If they keep it in a cup, that's probably the worst thing to do is put it in a cup or a holder. You know a lot of people put the brushes down into the cup but if they keep it in an area where there's a lot of aeration of the brush, drying action. That might help."

And for around seventy dollars, this is just the help I want for my family. I don't think that's expensive to get rid of 99% of the germs and keep your kids healthier.

Dentists recommend changing your toothbrush at least once every three months but here's something else to chew on. A recent study found four out of five brand-new brushes are already contaminated before they even come out of the package.
