Nope not great Volleyball teams (they do though), but I was thinking about the MRSA infections that have recently surfaced in these high schools. Correction - the Bedford Staph case that was confirmed - was Bedford, Virginia. A sophomore at Colon Junior/Senior High School was diagnosed this week with an antibiotic-resistant staph infection. After a Lapeer student contracted the antibiotic-resistant staph infection that killed a Virginia teen last week, the Lapeer School District began a major disinfection effort of school buildings. Two cases of staph infection confirmed Monday at Hanover-Horton High School are the latest in a string of unrelated cases at five area schools. Oakridge Public Schools officials called in extra staff to clean the upper elementary school Tuesday night after they learned a student there had contracted MRSA A case of the powerful drug-resistant form of staph infection known as MRSA was confirmed Tuesday in a student at Howell High School. A student at Comstock Park's Pine Island Elementary has contracted the antibiotic-resistant bacterial infection known as MRSA. The list continues. West Bloomfield High School had one confirmed case MRSA. District spokesman Steve Wasco says administrators are following health department directives in cleaning the school. Clawson High School students were sent home Friday morning after one case of MRSA was confirmed and complete cleaning of the school started. MRSA is a strain of staph bacteria that does not respond to penicillin or related antibiotics, though it can be treated with other drugs. The infection can be spread by sharing items, such as a towel or a piece of sports equipment, that have been used by an infected person or through direct skin-to-skin contact with an open wound. I like the idea that Ann Arbor High School has: Ann Arbor Public Schools have ordered a cleaner that kills MRSA, which will be sent to all buildings next week for use, said spokeswoman Liz Margolis. Special attention will be given to locker rooms and gym areas. Safe Space Disinfectant Room Fogger and Hand Sanitizer Comments are welcome .. what is your school doing to prevent the spread? It moves from the skin to the bloodstream in just a matter of hours.
My son is a collegiate athlete who was recently hospitalized for MRSA. The infected site had been treated promptly by a team physician and oral antibiotics had been started. Any skin lesion resembling a spider bite or boil should be evaluated and cultured by a physician without delay. Despite best efforts to contain the infection, it became systemic very rapidly which landed son in the hospital. He was given a powerful IV antibiotic with the hope that the particular staph strain would be responsive. In the meantime, he had to wait for the results of several cultures run on different types of antibiotics since the entire penicillin class of drugs are ineffective. His recovery took several weeks. The severity of this illness and uncertainty of an immediate treatment course is nothing to take lightly. It was a frightening experience for our family.
An individual case of the powerful drug-resistant form of staph infection known as MRSA was confirmed Wednesday on the campus of Eastern Michigan University, according to a campus-wide e-mail.
ases of MRSA were also confirmed Monday at a Pinckney High School.

During the past week, there has been much in the popular media about school closures because of concerns about MRSA (Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus), a bacterial staph infection that is resistant to many antibiotics.
At Marian, we have tried to be proactive about this situation and, since last Monday, our custodial personnel have been using the disinfectant H2 Orange, an antimicrobial, disinfectant that has been effective in the control of various organisms including staphylococcus aureus, e. colli, salmonella choleraesuis and HIV-1.
A Breckenridge High School student is back in class after a brush with Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA, the drug-resistant bacteria causing concern across the country.
Waverly Community School District also have a case of MRSA. Letter went home today with students. Waverly Schools are in Lansing.
Otsego High School is said to have 1 confirmed case of this. and students say many others are at school untreated with just bandages on in the gyms and classrooms with not having been treated. The school isn't to be cleaned until the weekend. Is this normal practice?
As a taxpayer at Otsego - I would not tolerate waiting until the weekend.
Get the H2 Orange NOW! As a parent of a student at Otsego - it is important to force the issue.
